Step into the colorful world of Jim Gijbels, an artist who has been fascinated by everything that has wheels since childhood. With oil paint, he brings Amsterdam's trams to life, inspired by memories of tram 17 rides and hours of drawing as a child. His works capture not only the cityscape, but also the nostalgia of a city in motion.

Jim's love for trams and trains started with a simple plastic wind-up train that he received as a toddler. Later, this grew into a passion for painting and photography, influenced by his father, who was an artist and photographer. Since the 90s, Jim has mainly worked with oil paint, allowing him to capture his subjects with rich colors and details.

De Hallen was once the depot for Amsterdam's electric trams. From 1905 to 1996, trams ran in and out here every day for maintenance and storage. That makes this place the perfect background for Gijbels' work, who captures the trams and urban life of the past and present in his paintings.

This exhibition shows a selection of his tram paintings: colorful, detailed and with a nod to Amsterdam past and present. The work is for sale, but the exhibition is mainly about sharing the love for the city and its iconic trams.
