Where does classical music live?
With the concert series This Is Not a Recital, classical guitarist Marta Fonseca proposes a research-oriented practice into the forms, contexts and audiences that classical music can encompass. The project is a direct reference to Magrittes Ceci n'est pas une pipe and reflects on how the classical repertoire can reach new audiences and occupy new spaces. With a repertoire that ranges from classical music to classical arrangements of Portuguese music, such as Foi Deus by Amália Rodrigues and Canção de Embalar by Zeca Afonso, the project aims to rethink what a classical recital is exactly and reinvent the way classical music is presented.
