Heroes exhibition — bringing childhood cancer out of the world

Ten children with cancer from the Netherlands, Indonesia, Suriname, Kenya and Armenia, among others, drew their own superhero: from Super Teddy to Wonderwoman. Professional illustrators translated these children's drawings into life-size movie posters, which are now on display in De Passage and De Galerie.

The exhibition Heroes shows how the world is fighting to eliminate childhood cancer and reveals inequality: in low- and middle-income countries, only 20% of children with cancer survive, compared to 80% in richer countries.

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology. From Utrecht, the center is not only working on the best care for Dutch children, but also on international collaborations to share knowledge, data and training. This gives children worldwide better access to diagnosis and treatment.

The exhibition is in line with the SIOP Congress (October 20—23, 2025) that takes place in Amsterdam this year. During this global conference, more than 3,500 professionals share the latest insights and strengthen international cooperation in pediatric oncology.
