HUSTLE - Stijn de Vries
From January 16 to February 22, HUSTLE can be seen in the public passage of De Hallen Amsterdam. Stijn de Vries' solo exhibition consists of large-format analogue photography and is freely accessible to everyone who visits De Hallen. HUSTLE originated from the photo book of the same name by Stijn de Vries, which was published in 2025 by Nijgh & Van Ditmar publishers. In this exhibition, he translates the book's theme into a visual presentation in the public space.
Being young in a time of expectations
Hustle, hustle, hustle. You're only young once. You have to make a career, save, travel and find the love of your life. At the same time, uncertainty is growing: homes for sale are unaffordable, the world is under pressure and social media provides a constant comparison. The world view is shifting, while the pressure to perform increases.
In HUSTLE Stijn de Vries captures this tension in raw, analogue photography. His images are unpolished and direct. At a time when perfection is often the norm, he consciously opts for the unprocessed. The photos show a generation that grew up with the internet, but is romanticizing analogue life and looking for authenticity.
XL photography in the public space
The images are presented as double-sided XL banners in the covered passage of De Hallen. Because of this scale and setting, vulnerable moments are part of visitors' daily lives. Everyone who walks through De Hallen is invited to take a moment to reflect on the themes of young adulthood and mental health.
