I am from Ukraine, under temporary protection in theNetherlands, I miss my home and I am grieving along with my people. So I takeUkrainian traditions, dance elements, soundscape and folklore mystic creaturesas an inspiration, I explore how culture identity can be shown with movementand I create a dance piece in which I explore connection between people andtheir land, while examining themes of freedom, borders and resilience when thisconnection is endangered.

“Aitai” is a duet about connection, absence and the spacebetween people.
The word means “miss u” in Japanese andthe piece began as a response to the loss of my grandmother last year. It hassince grown into a broader exploration of what it means to be deeply connectedto someone, what we carry from each other, what remains in absence, and how weshape and are shaped by those around us. Grief is the starting point but thepiece reaches towards something larger: the weight and wonder of humanpresence.
