May 4, Oud-West commemoration
For 81 years, we have been commemorating the end of the Second World War and its many victims on 4 May. In Oud-West, we have been doing this for 11 years at the memorial plaque in De Passage of De Hallen, in memory of the deceased city cleaning employees.
The Oud-West Memorial Day on 4 May is organized by the Oud-West Memorial Committee.
This year, we will also reflect on the many acts of war that are now taking place, near and far, and the victims that have occurred in the process. We don't want to look away from the suffering and trauma that this violence causes. Peace now seems further away than ever.
The program starts around 7.30 p.m., and this year focuses on the need for peace, security and solidarity.
Isabelle Schrötert (17 years old) reads a self-written story about the Sobibor death camp. And there is music by the Yiddish choir Hejmisj Zain. The tattoo is played by trumpeter Bart Noorman, who also accompanies the Wilhelmus. We end with the laying of flowers and a few songs by the choir.
Everyone is welcome to attend the May 4th memorial in Oud-West.
