Belit Sağ's Remembering Otherwise exhibition opened in OBA De Hallen

Last weekend, the exhibition Remembering Otherwise opened in OBA De Hallen. Artist Belit Sağ's solo exhibition, curated by Katia Krupennikova, was previously shown at Framer Framed and can now be visited in Amsterdam-West in the coming months.

Remembering Otherwise highlights an important but often understudied chapter in Dutch employment history: the 1978 labor dispute in Veghel (Noord-Brabant), led by migrant workers from Turkey. Using a monumental tapestry, a multichannel video installation and collages, Belit Sağ reimagines this history. The works were developed on the basis of extensive archival research.

What makes the exhibition special is the way in which the archive is approached. Instead of one fixed historical narrative, a polyphonic approach is key. Through conversations with people who experienced the conflict themselves, personal memories, oral tradition and non-verbal knowledge become as meaningful as written documents and figures. This creates space for new perspectives and interpretations.

With Remembering Otherwise Belit Sağ invites visitors to reflect on work, migration, resilience and how knowledge and experience are passed on between generations.

The exhibition can be visited free of charge until the end of March, during the library's opening hours.
